Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 September 2026

Aqua Navis Ltd (trading as "Skylark Education", "we", "us") is the data controller for the personal information described here. This policy explains what we collect when you join Skylark Learning Club, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what rights you and your child have over it.

2. Why we use it, and our legal basis

Where we rely on legitimate interests, you have the right to object — see section 8.

3. Children's information

We collect the minimum we need about your child: their first name, their year group, and the records generated by their attendance. We never ask a child to give us information directly, and a parent or carer is always the account holder and our point of contact. Children do not have their own logins, and everything we hold about your child is visible to you through your account.

4. Session recordings

Every session is recorded. We do this to keep children safe: it lets us look into any concern about conduct, tone or welfare, and it protects pupils and tutors alike. It is not optional, because a safeguarding measure that any individual could switch off would not protect anyone. If you are not comfortable with this, please do not enrol — we would rather have that conversation before you join.

What the recording shows. Sessions are recorded with the tutor spotlighted, so the video is of the tutor rather than of the children in the group.

What it captures of your child. Because a live session is a conversation, the recording includes the audio of everyone taking part, including your child. We cannot separate one child's voice from a group discussion, and we will not pretend otherwise. If your child has their camera on, they may also appear at moments when the view changes. You can ask us to have your child attend with their camera off at any time, and we will make sure their tutor knows.

Who can see recordings. Only Skylark staff with a safeguarding or quality reason to look, and the tutor who taught that session. Recordings are held in private, access-controlled storage. We do not share recordings with families, including where a child has missed a session, because a recording of a small group contains other people's children.

How long we keep them. Recordings are deleted after 60 days, unless one is needed for an open safeguarding matter or a legal claim, in which case we keep it until that matter is resolved.

Marketing is separate. We will never use session footage, images or recordings of your child in our marketing unless you have specifically opted in to that in your account. It is off unless you turn it on, it is separate from anything else you agree to, and you can withdraw it at any time — after which we will stop using that footage in anything new.

5. Who we share it with

We use a small number of trusted processors to run the service. Each acts on our instructions under a data processing agreement.

ProcessorWhat it does
SupabaseOur database, logins and file storage — where your account, your child's records and session recordings are held
StripePayment processing and billing. Stripe's own privacy policy applies to the card details you give them directly
ZoomThe live online classroom, and the recording of sessions
ResendSends our transactional email — welcome messages, progress reports and account notices
Google WorkspaceOur own staff email, including anything you send to hello@skylark.education
GitHub PagesHosts this website. It does not receive your membership data

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone else without telling you — except where the law requires it, or where we need to pass a concern to social services, the police or another safeguarding agency to protect a child. We will not seek your consent before making a safeguarding referral where doing so would put a child at risk.

6. Sending data outside the UK

Some of our processors store or handle data outside the UK, including in the European Economic Area and the United States. Where personal data leaves the UK, we rely on the UK international data transfer agreement or the UK addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses, together with the UK extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where a processor is certified under it. You can ask us for details of the safeguards applying to any particular transfer.

7. How long we keep things

8. Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you can ask us to:

To exercise any of these, email hello@skylark.education. We will respond within one month.

Some rights have limits. We may not be able to delete a recording or a safeguarding record while it is needed for a child protection matter or a legal claim, and we will explain it if that applies.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or call 0303 123 1113.

9. Cookies

This website doesn't set its own tracking cookies. Your account at portal.skylark.education sets a cookie that keeps you signed in, which is necessary for the service to work. Stripe may set cookies needed to process your payment securely, and Zoom sets cookies needed to run the classroom — see their own policies for details.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make a material change — particularly one affecting recordings or children's data — we'll email you before it takes effect.
